Age Discrimination Suits And The Age Of The Workforce Essay
Age discrimination suits will continue to increase due to the age of the workforce in todayââ¬â¢s society. Many workers are over the age of 40 and should experience age discrimination in a number of ways such as: getting fired for costing the company too much money, being too old to draw in new customers, or not even being considered for a position due to his/ her age. ââ¬Å"In 2011, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) reported 23,465 charges of age discrimination, a significance increase from the 16,008 charges the EEOC reported in 2000â⬠(Tauro, 2014, p. 255). The statists justify that the number of age discrimination cases are on the rise and companyââ¬â¢s need to take action to reduce the possibility of age discrimination suits in the future. The first policy Palm Beach County should implement is a set of rules stating that the county will not discriminate in any way on the bases of age, race, sex, ethnicity, qualifications, or any other area that could result in discrimination. The county needs to share the policy with every employee and discuss the importance of treating everyone equally and giving everyone the opportunity he/ she deserves. By the employees being trained and understanding the policy, it will help everyone understand that discrimination is a serious issue and will not be allowed within any offices of Palm Beach County. Also, training needs to be provided specifically for the individuals in charge of the hiring or firing process.
